Some unruly people on early Thursday set fire to a running bus on Dhaka-Tangail-Jamuna Bridge highway in the Baaikhola area of Tangail’s Basail upazila.
The incident took place at about 12:30am on Thursday.
According to police and local people, the bus named Bangla Star was heading to Pabna from Dhaka. When the bus reached Baaikhola area of the highway, some unruly people set the bus on fire while it was running.
At that time, the passengers quickly got off the bus and escaped.
Receiving the news, two units of Tangail Fire Service and Civil Defence rushed to the spot brought the fire under control.
Tangail fire service senior station officer SM Humayun Karnayen said, ‘The fire has been brought under control. There were no casualties in the incident.’
The incidents of arson and crude bomb attacked occurred days after the Awami League, whose activities are currently banned, announced a ‘Dhaka lockdown’ on social media for Thursday.
The day was scheduled for announcing the date of delivering the International Crimes Tribunal’s verdict in a crimes against humanity case against ousted prime minister and Awami League president Sheikh Hasina for atrocities committed across the country during the July uprising in the past year.
