Gono Odhikar Parishad president Nurul Haque Nur, who sustained injuries to his head and nose in an attack during the August 29 clash in the capital, was shifted to a cabin from the intensive care unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Monday.
‘We consider his condition stable now. We shifted him from the ICU to a cabin just a while ago,’ DMCH director Brigadier General Md Asaduzzaman told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· at about 4:00pm.
He said that recovery from the nasal fracture would take four to six months, while the issue of blood accumulation in his eyes would be resolved in one to two weeks.
He has no restrictions on eating normal food, but he complained of feeling a little pain while eating, said the DMCH director.
A six-member medical board was formed to oversee Nur’s condition as he sustained a fractured nasal bone, injuries above his eyes and a minor brain haemorrhage.
Including Nur, more than 50 leaders and activists of the Gono Odhikar Parishad were injured on August 29 evening when a clash broke out between the activists of the Jatiya Party and the Gono Odhikar Parishad in front of the JP central office at Bijoynagar in the capital.
At one stage, law enforcers charged baton on Nur, also a former Dhaka University Central Students’ Union vice-president, and others.
Different political parties, including the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Islami Andolon Bangladesh, Amar Bangladesh Party and National Citizen Party, and their leaders condemned the attack on Nur. The interim government also condemned the attack.
