The Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Wednesday unveiled a week-long programme to celebrate its 47th founding anniversary.

BNP standing committee member and anniversary celebration committee convener Nazrul Islam Khan announced the programme at a press conference at the party’s central office in the capital’s Naya Paltan area.


The press conference was held following a preparatory meeting presided over by Nazrul Islam Khan at the same venue.

The party senior joint secretary general and the celebration committee’s member secretary, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, conducted the meeting, attended by other committee members.

The meeting finalised the programme aiming at observing the anniversary with due dignity.

As part of the celebration, a discussion on ‘The Purpose and Significance of BNP’s Formation’ will be held on August 31 at the Engineers’ Institution auditorium in the capital’s Ramna area.

On September 1, the founding day of BNP, the party flag will be hoisted at BNP’s central office at Naya Paltan and offices across the country at 6:00am.

At about 11:00am on the day, the party secretary general, standing committee members, central leaders of affiliated bodies, and activists will offer prayers and place floral wreaths at the grave of BNP founder and former president Ziaur Rahman at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the city.

Rallies and discussions will also take place in districts and metropolitan areas nationwide on the day.

On September 1, 1978, Ziaur Rahman founded the BNP.

A colourful procession will be brought out from the party’s central office on September 2.

Rallies and discussion meetings will be held at the upazila and municipal levels on September 3.

To mark the anniversary, the BNP will also publish a commemorative supplement in national dailies, distribute posters, and organise roundtable discussions on contemporary issues.

In addition, cultural programmes, tree plantation drives, fish release initiatives, free medical camps, and sports competitions will be held in Dhaka and elsewhere in the country at suitable times.
