A metropolitan magistrate court in Dhaka on Monday allowed the police to take private television channel My TV chairman Nasir Uddin Sathi into custody for five days for interrogation in a murder case linked to the 2024 mass uprising.
Metropolitan magistrate MN Zia Uddin passed the order responding to a plea submitted by the Criminal Investigative Department sub-inspector Khan Md Erfan seeking the court鈥檚 permission to take Nasir into custody for seven days for interrogation in the case.
SI Erfan, earlier in the day, produced Nasir before the court.
The remand petition stated that Nasir directly and indirectly made provocative speeches and carried out propaganda against the Students Against Discrimination Movement last year.
On Sunday, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police鈥檚 Detective Branch arrested Nasir at Gulshan in the capital in the case filed with Jatrabari police station.
According to the case documents, Md Asadul Haque Babu, 24, joined a rally in the Jatrabari paka rasta area on August 5, 2024.
There, he received bullets in his chest and leg, and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where on-duty doctors declared him dead.
On August 30, 2024, Babu鈥檚 father Zainal Abedin filed the case with Jatrabari police station against 25 people, including the ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
The case was later handed over to the CID for investigation.
Nasir is named as the number 22 accused in the case.
