Bangladesh all-rounder Mohammad Saifuddin believes that maintaining a position in the team will be more challenging than earning a place in the squad.
Saifuddin was picked in the squad for Bangladesh’s three-match T20I series after missing nearly 13 months of international cricket.
The 28-year-old all-rounder, whose career has been hit by injuries on multiple occasions, last played for Bangladesh in May 2024, where he picked up eight wickets.Ìý
‘The journey was a long one; probably I got the chance again to play in green and red after 13 months. I’ll try my best. Everyone knows that it’s tougher to hold the place than getting picked,’ Saifuddin told reporters prior to his departure for Sri Lanka on Monday. Ìý
In the last BPL, Saifuddin, a medium pacer, played for Rangpur Riders, where he picked up 12 wickets at an average of 26.50. With the bat, the left-hander managed 111 runs in eight innings, with the highest being 52 not out.Ìý
Saifuddin said that he gave his best in the two practice matches in Chattogram to grab the selectors’ attention.Ìý
‘I tried to surpass myself,’ he said. ‘I tried to give my best in the two practice matches held in Chattogram. I don’t know how well I did. Maybe the selectors were happy with my performances; that's why I have been given the opportunity.’Ìý
He also reiterated the importance of having pace bowling all-rounders in any team.Ìý
‘If you see, in the last match [ODI], Tanzim’s little cameo was crucial for Bangladesh's win. There are two to three pace bowling all-rounders who play for England. The more all-rounders you have got, the better for the team,’ he said.Ìý
‘I will try to do well, be it in batting or bowling,’ he added.Ìý
The three-match T20I series is scheduled to begin in Pallekele on July 10.
