Actor Nusraat Faria Mazhar walked out of Kashimpur female鈥檚 Central Jail on Tuesday afternoon, several hours after she had secured bail in a case of attempted murder allegedly committed during the past year鈥檚 July mass uprising.
The prison鈥檚 senior jail super Mst Kawalin Nahar told 抖阴精品 that Nusraat聽 was handed over to her family at about 3:30pm as her mother produced bail papers at about 12:30pm.
Earlier in the morning, the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Dhaka granted bail in the case filed with the Vatara police on May 3, accusing the actor and others of attempting to kill Emanul Haque, 35.
According to the case statement, Emanul sustained bullet injury in his right leg on July 19, 2024.
The bail plea was heard on Tuesday although a Dhaka court previously set May 22 as the date for the hearing.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mustafizur Rahman passed the order on a bond of Tk 5,000 after the hearing, said court officials.
Nusraat Faria鈥檚 lawyer Mohammad Iftekhar Hossain told the media that the accused was in Canada when the incident took place, all the necessary papers of which they submitted before the court.
On Monday, the court of Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Nasrin Akter ordered sending the actor to jail as she was produced before the court by Vatara police sub-inspector Billal Bhuiyan who requested for keeping her behind bars. The court also set May 22 as the next date for the hearing on her bail plea.聽
On Sunday afternoon, immigration officials arrested the actor at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in city as she was about to leave for Thailand on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight.
Nusraat was taken to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police detective branch in the capital鈥檚 Minto road for interrogation and afterwards she was produced in court on Monday.
Many, an interim government adviser, politicians and artistes among them, took to social media to condemn the arrest.聽
Cultural affairs adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, former Jahangirnagar University economics professor Anu Muhammad and National Citizen Party chief organiser for south Hasnat Abdullah, among others, expressed concern over the arrest.聽聽
On May 3, Emanul Haque filed the case with the Vatara police against 283 people, including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 17 artistes, on charges of attempting to murder him during the July uprising.
According to the case statements, Nusraat Faria was also a financer of Awami League during the mas uprising.
