BNP standing committee member and former commerce minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said both domestic and foreign investors are preparing to invest in Bangladesh as news of the upcoming election spreads at home and abroad.

He made the remarks on Wednesday at the Foreign Investors Summit 2025 during a session titled ‘Bangladesh’s Economic Landscape: Growth and Prospects’ held at a hotel in Dhaka.

The event was organized by BRAC EPL Stock Brokerage Ltd.

Amir Khasru said that entrepreneurs are gearing up as election news spreads. Alongside local investors, foreign investors are also showing keen interest. ‘Today we see the proof—a large delegation from Japan has arrived with investment plans.’

To build a sustainable and high-performing economy, investment must be increased. There is no alternative. Borrowing or printing money cannot sustain growth—investment is the only durable solution, he added.

Khasru stressed the need for a stronger capital market to ensure long-term financing, saying stability and sustainable development are impossible without it. He called for product branding, technical and financial support, and direct access to global markets for Bangladeshi entrepreneurs.

Chief adviser’s special assistant for economic affairs Anisuzzaman Chowdhury said many countries face economic crises after regime changes through mass uprisings. But Bangladesh was an exception. Despite the regime change, GDP has remained stable and inflation has declined.

Anisuzzaman added that the interim government is working to build a strong, well-governed capital market as part of its broader vision.

The capital market is ready for long-term investment, he told both foreign and domestic investors.

Policy Exchange Bangladesh chairman M Masrur Reaz, BSEC commissioner Md Saifuddin, Contextual Investment LLC managing director Takao

Hiroshi, and Asia Frontier Investment Ltd fund manager Ruchir Desai, DSE Brokers Association president Saiful Islam and BRAC EPL chairperson Fahima Chowdhury, among others were present at the event.
