
Bangladesh Chamber of Industries held a roundtable discussion in the capital on Saturday to address the challenges faced by the manufacturing sector, especially micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
BCI President Anwar-ul Alam Chowdhury (Parvez) chaired the event, which included representatives from various governmental and private sectors, including the central bank, SME foundation, and small and medium industries.
 A press release said BCI held the event as part of its ongoing initiative to identify sector-specific challenges and solutions through stakeholder engagement.
At the event, participants discussed a wide range of issues affecting MSMEs, including access to finance, environmental certification, barriers faced by women entrepreneurs in obtaining loans, VAT and tax regulations, certification complexities, market access, and the implementation of competition laws.
BCI President Mr. Anwar-ul Alam Chowdhury emphasized BCI›s commitment to nurturing new entrepreneurs and supporting MSME growth, particularly in sectors like light engineering, agro-based industries, halal products, blue economy, and leather goods.
He reiterated BCI’s role in removing barriers for local industries and affirmed that a comprehensive report based on stakeholder input will be prepared and submitted to relevant government authorities.
He also stated that before engaging in discussions with the government, BCI will finalize sector-specific issues through consultation with respective industry leaders and include them in future negotiation delegations.
