Theatre troupe Prachyanat is staging four shows of its new theatre production titled ‘Byatikram Ebang Niyam’ at the Experimental Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy that started on Wednesday.
Prachyanat premiered the play, an adaptation by Shahidul Mamun of Bertolt Brecht’s ‘The Exception and the Rule’, in July as part of the ‘Remembering Monsoon Revolution’ programme with the support from the cultural affairs ministry.
‘Byatikram Ebang Niyam’ is a story that subtly identifies the discriminatory justice system in a class-divided society, which favours the rich.
A wealthy merchant shoots dead his porter during a journey. During the trial, the merchant convinces the court that he killed him to defend himself.
Md Saiful Islam designed the stage and lights, Neel Kamrul composed the music of the production, Bilkis Jahan Jaba designed the costumes and Santa Shahrin did the choreography.
Sakhawat Hosain Rizvi, Shatabdi Wadud, Diana Meriline Chowdhury,
Adrija Amin, Shraban Shamim and Fuad Bin Idris, among others, performed different characters of the play.
The play will be staged today at the same venue, while two shows will be staged on Friday.
