Country’s both bourses — Dhaka Stock Exchange and Chittagong Stock Exchange — on Tuesday continued its upward trajectory, extending its gaining streak for a sixth consecutive session.

DSEX, the broad index of the DSE, advanced by 50.9 points to settle at 5,271 points as against 5,220 points in the previous trading session.

Market analysts observed that although the session started off with a mild volatile movement in market indices, buyers retaining control in the subsequent period led the positive momentum to extend for six straight sessions.

However, market turnover slightly decreased by 16.1 per cent to Tk 7.2 billion compared to Tk 8.6 billion in the previous session.

On the sectoral front, Bank (17.2 per cent) issues exerted the highest turnover, followed by Pharma (16.5 per cent) and Engineering (8.9 per cent) sectors. Sectors mostly displayed positive returns, out of which Ceramic (5.6 per cent), Food (2.7 per cent) and Engineering (2.0 per cent) exhibited the most positive returns on the bourse today, while Life Insurance (-1.0 per cent), Paper (-0.8 per cent) and General Insurance (-0.4 per cent) exerted the most corrections.

Out of the 397 issues traded, 173 advanced, 149 declined and 75 remained unchanged. The port city bourse, CSE, also settled on a positive zone. The Selective Categories’ Index (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) rose by 58.5 points and 81.1 points, respectively.
