
Stocks on Wednesday sustained the gaining streak with the key index of the major bourse crossing the 5000-mark for the first time since April 23 as the buoyant investors continued their buying interest in sector-wise issues anticipating positive momentum ahead.
DSEX, the key index of the DSE, went up by 53.83 points or 1.08 percent to settle at 5,035.47.
Two other indices also ended higher. The DS30 Index, comprising blue-chip companies, rose 18.82 points to close at 1,894.21 and the DSES Index advanced 10.35 points to finish at 1,094.11.
Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, jumped to Tk 6,906.21 million on the premier bourse, which was Tk聽6,017.53 million at the previous session of the week.
Out of the 397 issues traded, 78 declined, 273 advanced and 46 others remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended higher with the CSE All Share Price Index (CASPI) rising 129.97 points to settle at 13,959.80 and its Selective Categories Index (CSCX) gaining 74.09 points to close at 8,535.96.
Of the issues traded, 48 declined, 151 advanced and 34 issues remained unchanged.
The port-city bourse traded 15.44 million shares and mutual fund units with a turnover value of Tk聽483 million.
