
The Dhaka Stock Exchange and the Chittagong Stock Exchange plunged on Sunday due to mainly price fall in large-cap securities.
DSEX, the broad index of the DSE, plunged by 76.8 points to settle at 4,678 points as against 4,754 points in the previous trading session.Â
Trading activities remained stagnant as most investors shied away from taking positions in equities, causing the total turnover in DSE falling to a low of Tk 2.7 billion.Â
On the sectoral front, food (22.1 per cent) issues exerted the highest turnover, followed by bank (15.6 per cent) and pharma (11.4 per cent) sectors.Â
All the sectors displayed dismal returns, out of which paper (-3.9 per cent), financial institution (-3.2 per cent) and ceramic (-3.1 per cent) exerted the most corrections on the bourse on the day.Â
Out of the 397 issues traded, 15 advanced, 363 declined and 19 remained unchanged.
The CSE also settled on a negative zone. The Selective Categories’ Index (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) declined by 97.2 points and 171.5 points respectively.
