Bangladesh Nationalist Party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Sunday criticised the interim government that it was out of touch with the people and failed to understand their sufferings.

He resented that farmers were not receiving fair prices for their produces because the government did not understand their problems.

Mirza Fakhrul made the remarks while addressing a view-exchange meeting organised by the Jagannathpur Union BNP unit on the Daulatpur Girls’ High School premises in Thakurgaon.

The meeting was part of his campaign ahead of the upcoming Jatiya Sangsad elections.

He also said that some educated individuals from the United States were coming and imposing issues such as a referendum and a charter on the people of Bangladesh.

‘All the crises you see in the country are created and staged. People do not understand these dramas; they just want to vote. We agree with all reforms, and whatever we do not agree with will be passed in parliament,’ Fakhrul said.

On the subjects of genocide and mass uprisings, he said that there had been genocide in 1971 and in 2024.

He went on to say that  the difference was that back then it was carried out by West Pakistanis whereas this time their own fascist leaders had inflicted atrocities on them and their children.

Promising support for the farmers if the BNP is voted to power, Fakhrul said that they were not receiving fair prices for rice or even potatoes, which meant that they were unable to profit from their labour.

He urged the people to consider what the BNP had done compared with what the Jamaat had done and to choose between the sheaf of paddy and the scales.

Fakhrul said that this would be his last election, as he would not have the strength to contest in the future, and requested vote for the sheaf of paddy in his final election.
