The National Citizen Party would not be allocated the water lily as the symbol was not included in the Election Commission’s official list, EC secretary Akhter Ahmed said on Tuesday.
‘The water Lily symbol is not among our list of 115 approved symbols. According to regulations, political parties must select their symbol from this list. Therefore, the NCP will have to propose an alternative,’ EC secretary said while speaking to reporters at the Election Commission headquarters in Agargaon.
He also said that the registration process for new political parties was still underway, with documentation currently under review.
The secretary said that NCP submitted an application requesting the water Lily as electoral symbol.
‘We have asked them to send alternative proposals. A final decision will be made in agreement between the EC and the party,’ he added.
The EC secretary also said that from September 28, the commission would begin a series of dialogues with members of civil society, educators, women leaders, journalists, political parties, and election experts.
These discussions will be scheduled in phases, taking into account religious festivals and public holidays.
Regarding expatriate voter registration, he said that progress was being made in that area as well.
