
Bereaved guardians on Tuesday demanded a fair investigation into the Bangladesh Air Force fighter jet crash on a building of Milestone School and College at Uttara in the capital Dhaka on July 21 and trial of the people responsible for the incident.
Thirty-six people, mostly primary-level students, were killed and scores of others were injured in the tragic incident.
The guardians also demanded compensation and free treatment and follow-up facilities from the government.
Under the banner of families of the deceased and injured in the jet crash incident, family members of some of the victims organised a press conference at the National Press Club in the capital on the day with a charter of eight-point demand.
According to the Milestone authorities, among the deceased, 28 were schoolchildren, three schoolteachers, three guardians and one school attendant.聽 The other deceased in the crash was the pilot of the aircraft.
On Tuesday, the guardians demanded a fair investigation into the incident and trial of the people responsible, Tk 5 crore for each student who was killed and Tk 1 crore for each injured student as compensation from the government, health cards under the government management for the injured ones, rehabilitation of the injured people by the government by giving facilities, including public jobs, observing July 21 as a mourning day each year at all educational institutions, reservation of the graves of the fatal victims, recognition of the deceased people in the incident as martyrs and construction of a mosque at Uttara in memory of the victims.
The guardians said that after the incident they were continuously struggling with taking care of their children while they did not know if their children would return to normal life or not.
They also claimed that apart from the Milestone authorities, at present no one was contacting them to know their current situation.
At the press conference, several guardians, including Md Nazmul Haque, Rezaul Krim Shamim and Sanjida Belayet, were present.
As per the Milestone authorities, after the accident a total of 61 injured students, teachers and staff of the educational institution got admitted in different hospitals.
Out of them, 10 are now undergoing treatment while 51 were released from the hospitals.
Earlier, on August 12, the guardians held a demonstration with a nine-point demand, including justice and compensation for the victims, the closure of coaching business at Milestone and all educational institutions, relocation of Milestone or the air force runway, and the removal of two Milestone teachers for their involvement in coaching business and misbehaving with the guardians.
