At least 10 people were injured in a clash between two factions of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party over taking positions in front of the stage during a programme in Feni’s Parshuram upazila on Wednesday.

The clash took place on the stage of the programme to celebrate the BNP’s 47th founding anniversary in front of Zero Point near Sonali Bank in Parashuram Upazila town at about 12:00 noon.

The clash occurred between the supporters of the upazila BNP former joint-convener Abdul Alim Maqsud and those of the upazila BNP convener Abdul Halim Manik, the party insiders said.

Parshuram police station officer-in-charge Mohammad Nurul Hakim said that the groups locked in a scuffle and left several people from both sides injured.

The injured were first taken to Parashuram Upazila Health Complex and later to Feni General Hospital, he said.

‘After receiving information, the police reached the spot and brought the situation under control. No case was filed in this connection till Wednesday evening,’ he said.

According to the party leaders, Rafiqul Islam Majnu, convener of Dhaka Metropolitan South, was the chief guest at the programme, while BNP National Executive Committee Abu Taleb was present there as the special guest.

Abu Taleb said that there was no grouping within the party.

‘Organisational action will be taken against those involved in creating the chaos over taking positions in front of the stage at the venue,’ he added.
