Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami naib-e-amir Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher on Friday said their party supported holding elections in February and was preparing for polls on February 15.
‘The interim government had committed to maintaining neutrality, implementing reforms, ensuring visible justice and conducting elections,’ he said.
Mohammad Taher made these comments while speaking as the chief guest at Jamaat’s ‘Election responsibility rally’ in Kalirbazar Union of Chauddagram upazila in Cumilla.Â
However, he emphasised that certain issues had to be resolved to ensure a free and fair election.
‘Among these, the July Charter must be given legal recognition and the February elections must be conducted based on it,’ he added.
Among others, Jamaat central majlish-e shura member Abdus Sattar, Cumilla South district Jamaat amir Mohammad Shahjahan, upazila Jamaat secretary Belal Hossain, assistant secretary Abdur Rahim, and Kalikapur Union Jamaat amir Abul Hashem were present.
