The Criminal Investigation Department of the police on Thursday submitted a charge sheet against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 285 others in a sedition case filed with the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court in March this year.

They were accused of attempting to oust the interim government and engaging in anti-state activities.

CID assistant superintendent of police for cyber investigation and operations Md Enamul Haque submitted the charge sheet to the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam.

The court accepted the charge sheet and issued arrest warrants against all the accused persons.

The court also set September 11 as the deadline for submitting the report on the execution of the arrest warrants.

On March 27, the CID filed the case on allegations of conspiracy to create a civil war in a virtual meeting under the platform of Joy Bangla Brigade.

Special superintendent of police of the CID’s media wing Jasim Uddin said that, besides Hasina, Awami League’s United States unit vice-president Rabbi Alam, co-host of the meeting, was also found involved.

‘The CID also found 284 local leaders and activists of the Awami League in home and abroad also participated in the virtual meeting,’ he said.

According to the case statement, the plaintiff came to know from the intelligence agencies that the newly formed Joy Bangla Brigade in an online meeting on December 19, 2024 discussed handing over power to Hasina through a civil war, and many vowed to continue their fight till their last breath

Professor Muhammad Yunus-led interim government took office on August 8, 2024, three days after the ouster of the Sheikh Hasina regime on August 5, 2024 amid a mass uprising.

On May 10, the interim government banned all activities of the AL and its affiliated organisations.
