National Citizen Party convener Nahid Islam on Thursday alleged that journalist Zulkarnain Saer Khan and his associates on the night of August 2, 2024 attempted a military coup to allow a section of military officers to take over.

Nahid’s allegations came through a post on his verified Facebook account on the day.

‘Students coordinators were pressurised and threatened in the so-called safe house for announcing one-point on Facebook at that night, demanding the resignation of the government, and they were also asked not to communicate with us anymore,’ said Nahid.

He said, ‘Our stand was clear that the declaration of the one-point movement would be announced in the field amidst the people.’

‘We were internally clear that the power would not go to the army or any army-backed group.’

Nahid also said that such move would have triggered another one-eleven, creating a scope for the return of Awami League in which security forces would have also been affected.

When contacted, Zulkarnain, now living in the United Kingdom, said that NCP leader and former adviser Nahid Islam’s statement was not only false, but also baseless.

He also called Nahid’s post a cheap attempt to divert attention from their misdeeds that were regularly appearing on the mainstream media.

The Inter Services Public Relation Directorate refused to comment over the issue when approached.
