The Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Tuesday held a special prayer session at its central office in the capital’s Naya Paltan area, seeking eternal peace for the souls of the students killed in Monday’s Bangladesh Air Force jet crash at Milestone School in Uttara.

BNP leaders and activists gathered on the ground floor of the party office in the morning to participate in the prayer session to pay tribute to the deceased in the accident.


As part of the observance of the national mourning, a black flag was hoisted at the BNP office at dawn, and party members wore black badges to express grief.

Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal also launched a voluntary blood donation drive in front of the party office to support those injured in the crash.

Leaders and activists from the Juba Dal and the BNP donated blood in the morning.

During a brief speech at the prayer session, BNP standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy prayed for the eternal peace of the departed souls and expressed sympathy to the victims’ families.

BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, along with BNP chairperson’s advisory council member Abdus Salam, joint secretaries general Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie and Abdus Salam Azad and publicity secretary Sultan Salahuddin Tuku were also present.

The death toll from the July 21 BAF jet crash rose to 31, mostly child and adolescent students, on Tuesday.
