Leaders of the Samajtantrik Chhatra Front on Monday alleged that the interim government was not working to fulfil the people’s aspirations rather showed its interest in signing foreign deals instead of restoring fully law and order in the country.

They also alleged that the state organised drone shows to remember the July mass uprising but, on the other hand, it created pressure to withdraw the cases filed against the police involved in the July atrocities.

They raised the allegations at a discussion on the opening ceremony of the 5th conference of the Samajtantrik Chhatra Front’s Dhaka city unit at the Central Shaheed Minar on the Dhaka University campus.

The event also announced the 14th committee of the Samajtantrik Chhatra Front Dhaka city unit. The committee will be led by Nowshin Mustary Sathi as president and Nahiyan Rehman Rahat as general secretary.

Socialist Party of Bangladesh (Marxist) Dhaka unit coordinator Joydev Bhattacharya, Samajtantrik Chhatra Front president Salman Siddique and the conference’s convener, Nowshin Mustary Sathi, spoke at the event chaired by Dhaka unit president Arup Das Sham.

Salman said that the women participated in the student-led July mass uprising and they were not harassed during the movement, but after the uprising many incidents happened against women.

‘Women are being harassed in their working places. Lamia, who was daughter of a July martyr, committed suicide after being raped. The government failed to restore fully law and order in the country,’ said Salman.

Joydev said that the cases filed were so weak that the perpetrators could easily be released from the charges.

‘We need to question the judicial process of the July killing because the government focuses on foreign deals instead of ensuring justice,’ said Joydev.

The programme also placed a seven-point demand, including an immediate trial of July killing. The event also comprised photography and graffiti exhibition, cultural performance and a rally.
