The Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami will hold a national rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka on July 19 to press their seven demands including a proportionate representation system in the general election.
A delegation led by the party’s assistant secretary general Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair held a meeting with the Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Thursday to make the rally a success, said a press release issued by the party.
Their other demands include trial for all massacres during the ousted Awami League regime, ensuring fundamental reforms, implementation of the July Charter and Declaration, rehabilitation of the injured and families of the martyred ones during the July uprising, provision to exercise voting rights for expatriates, and ensuring a level playing field during the elections.
Ehsanul told the meeting that they had already taken necessary preparations to hold the rally, where several lakh people from across the country and leaders of different political parties would attend.
The delegation sought the metropolitan police’s cooperation for additional arrangements to control traffic and maintain the law and order situation as additional people and vehicles would enter the capital on the day, the press release said.
