
The Anti-Corruption Commission on Sunday filed two cases against former whip of the Jatiya Sangsad Abu Sayeed Al Mahmud Swapon and his wife Mehbuba Alam on charges of amassing illegal wealth.
ACC deputy director for public relations Aktarul Islam said that the cases were filed with the commission’s integrated district office in Dhaka-1 following approval of the commission against them.
According to the cases, Abu Sayeed Al Mahmud Swapon, former Awami league lawmaker from Joypurhat-2 constituency and whip of the Jatiya Sangsad, amassed illegal assets worth about Tk 1.26 crore.
Besides, he made unusual and suspicious transactions of Tk 653.16 crore through 28 bank accounts with his own name, joint and other establishments.
Mehbuba Alam, wife of the former lawmaker, amassed wealth worth about Tk 2.22 crore beyond known sources of income.
