The Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, student wing of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, on Monday night dissolved its committee at Nawab Siraj-Ud-Dowla Govt College in Natore over the incident of allegedly assaulting a Bangladesh Chhatra League activist physically.
A press release signed by JDC central committee office secretary Zahangir Alam on Tuesday night stated that, in accordance with the decision of the central parliament, the JCD committee of Nawab Siraj-Ud-Dowla Govt College under the Natore district unit has been dissolved.
‘The decision was approved by JCD central committee president Rakibul Islam Rakib and general secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir and a new committee will be announced soon,’ it added.
Maruf Hossain, general secretary of the Natore district JCD unit, said that they were informed of the dissolution of JCD Nawab Siraj-Ud-Dowla Govt College unit.
‘It was not appropriate to torture BCL activist Faisal and, therefore, the central committee has taken necessary organisational steps,’ he added.
Earlier on Sunday, a video clip went viral on social media where Nawab Siraj-Ud-Dowla Govt. College unit JCD activists were seen beating banned organisation BCL activist Faisal Hossain Kadar, 22.
In the video clip, Faisal was seen lying face down in a battery-run rickshaw, with a JCD man’s legs placed on his waist, pushing down his head near the road.
Following the incident, Faisal’s father, Md Khairul Islam Liton, filed a case with the Natore Sadar police station on Monday against five named JCD leader and activists, including the Nawab Siraj-Ud-Daula College Chhatra Dal unit president Md Zubayer Hossen, and 5 to 6 unnamed people.
According to the case statement, the accused JCD activists tortured Faisal on Sunday morning, demanding extortion.
The accused also beat up one of Faisal’s cousins when he went to save his brother.
Later, the accused forced Faisal to lie down with his face down in a battery-run rickshaw, and one of the accused placed his feet on Faisal’s waist and back on the rickshaw, pushing his head near the road, and roamed the city, while several others followed the vehicle, playing loud music as the victim cried out, the statement said.
The JCD activists then took Faisal to a rickshaw garage and tortured him there, and demanded Tk 20,000 in ransom.
Later, the accused took a signature of a family member on a blank sheet of paper and released him after the family urged them to set him free, the case statement added.
