
Different political parties on Thursday opposed the decision of the interim government not to observe March 7 as a national day.
聽The interim government headed by Muhammad Yunus on Wednesday announced cancellation of the observance of eight national days including March 7, the day when Bangladesh鈥檚 founding president Sheikh Mujibur Ranman delivered a lecture at Surwardy Udyan in 1971.
Some political parties in separate press statements opposed the decision saying that cancellation of observation of March 7 would not be acceptable as the historic lecture was a part of our War of Independence.
Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD, a partner of Ganatantra Mancha president ASM Abdur Rob said that cancellation of observance of March 7 would not be acceptable as the spirit of the liberation war of 1971 was expressed in the lecture of Sheikh Mujbur Rahman.
Revolutionary Workers Party of Bangladesh, another partner of Ganatantra Mancha, general secretary Saiful Huq also opposed the decision of cancellation of the day observation and called on the interim government to refrain from implementing the decision.
Communist Party of Bangladesh president Mohammad Shah Alam and general secretary Ruhin Hossain Prince also called on the interim government to observe March 7 and also November 4 as National Constitution Day.
聽The politburo of Workers Party of Bangladesh in a press statement also opposed the decision of cancellation of observation of March 7.
Former Jahangirnagar University professor and also leader of Democratic Right Committee Anu Muhammad in a facebook post also opposed the decision of cancellation of observance of March 7 as a national day.
