Sajeeb Wazed Joy, son of ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, demanded the interim government to hold parliament election within 90 days since the parliament was dissolved.

‘I demand election in the shortest time. There is no alternative. If it happens, it will be unelected, unconstitutional meaning an illegal government,’ he said in a video message on Saturday.

The president dissolved the parliament on Tuesday, a day after the deposed government’s prime minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled to India amid a mass uprising led by students.

Joy, now staying abroad, hoped that if election was held in time, Awami League would win as it carried out massive development work and ensured peace in the country.

‘If you (people) don’t vote Awami League, Bangladesh will turn Pakistan,’ he said, urging people to stop it by casting votes for AL.

An interim government cannot rule the country for long. Earlier same thing happened in 2008 but the attempt eventually failed.

‘If the government try to stay long in the same manner they will do mistake,’ he said, adding that the interim government had no political mandate.

He said that in recent incidents the supporters of Awami League were attacked. He also asked the Awami League supporters not to be afraid.

The party was now much more powerful than it was in 1975 when it also faced attacks, said Joy.

‘I am grandson of Bangabandhu. I will bring Awami League to power again. Awami League will come to power certainly because it is the largest political party of the country,’ he said.
