Several leftist political parties on Saturday called for the immediate resignation of the Awami League government, holding it responsible for the deaths of over 200 students and civilians during the student protests, demanding quota reform in government jobs.

Leaders of the Left Democratic Alliance, a combine of six political parties, and the Anti-Fascist Left Alliance, a combine of seven leftist parties, issued a joint statement, demanding the resignation of the government.

They also called for the restoration of democratic rule, the withdrawal of curfew and law enforcement from campuses, and the formation of a neutral probe body to investigate the killings of students and civilians.

They demanded an end to the repression of students and the withdrawal of cases filed against them.

The statement was signed by LDA coordinator Bazlur Rashid Firoz, Anti-Fascist Left Alliance coordinator Jafar Hossain, and other leaders.

In a separate statement, Jatiya Gonofront also demanded the resignation of the government.

The party’s chief coordinator Tipu Biswas stated that the Sheikh Hasina government had no right to remain in power after the deaths of over 200 students and called for the restoration of democratic rule in the country.
