Leaders of the Ganatantra Mancha on Friday at a protest rally alleged that in the name of transit, the Awami League government had given India ‘corridor’ in the deals and memorandum of understandings signed during the recent India visit of prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

Giving train corridor to India will be contrary to the national interest and sovereignty of the country and, the AL government has signed the deals to satisfy the Indian government to stay in power, they alleged.

The combine of six political parties organised the rally in front of the National Press Club in the capital.

The Nagarik Oikya president Mahmudur Rahman Manna said that the Awami League government had signed the deals with the Indian government were contrary to the national interests and sovereignty of Bangladesh.

The government has given railway corridor to satisfy the Indian government to remain in power in Bangladesh without the mandate of the people of the country, Manna added.

The Mancha will extend support to the movement of the public university teachers on the issue of Universal Pension Scheme, said Zonayed Saki, chief coordinator of the Ganosamhati Andolan.

He also added that they would extend support to the movement of the students on the issue of cancellation of the High Court order for restoring a 30 per cent quota for freedom fighters’ children and grandchildren in government jobs.

The Revolutionary Workers Party general secretary Saiful Huq mentioned that the AL government had failed to get the justified water sharing of the common rivers of two countries, including the water of the River Teesta.

Chairing the rally, the Bhashani Onusari Parishad convener Sheikh Rafiqul Islam Bablu said that the Mancha would continue their movement until the resignation of the AL government.

The Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD vice-president Tania Rob demanded the cancellation of the unequal deals signed with India.

Rastra Sanskar Andolan chief coordinator Hasnat Quaiyum demanded immediate stopping of the killings of Bangladeshi people in the border area by the Indian Border Security Force.

Bhashani Onusari Parishad central leader Abu Yusuf Selim conducted the programme.

The rally was followed by a protest procession that paraded up to Purana Paltan crossing.

Prior to the rally, the JSD held a rally at Purana Paltan crossing. Vice-president of the party Tania Rob, central leader KM Jabir, Mosharraf Hossain, among others, spoke at the rally.
