
The central steering committee of Ganatantra Mancha said that the US sanction imposed on former Bangladesh army chief Aziz Ahmed tarnished the image of the army as well as Bangladesh at home and abroad.
It was expressed in the resolution of the Dhaka divisional extended committee meeting of Mancha held at Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital on Wednesday.
The US government on Monday disclosed the sanction on Aziz Ahmed.
The leaders of Ganatantra Mancha, a combine of six political parties, said that Awami League government used the army for their party purposes destroying professionalism of the army.
The US government earlier also imposed sanction on Rapid Action Battalion and its seven officials which also tarnished the image of the country, they said. The leaders of Mancha hoped that army would maintain its professionalism and express their stance in favour of democracy and human rights of the country.
Chaired by the coordinator of the combine and also chief coordinator of Ganosamhati Andolan, Zonayed Saki, the meeting was addresses among others by Nagarik Oikya president Mahmudur Rahman Manna, Revolutionary Workers Party general secretary Saiful Huq, Bhashani Onusari Parishad convener Sheikh Rafiqul Islam Bablu, Rastra Sanskar Andolan chief coordinator Hasnat Quaiyum and Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD general secretary Shahid Uddin Mahmod Shapon.
