A seven-day group exhibition ‘Prabartana’ displaying nature and life of women and national minority people, organised by a women-led art organisation Art Echo Foundation is under way at Shafiuddin Shilpalay at Dhanmondi in the capital Dhaka.
‘Prabartana’ is the first group exhibition of the foundation, featuring 73 paintings with seven decorated furniture of 12 artists.
The exhibition was inaugurated by artist Abdus Sattar on November 7.
Curated by artist Mohiuddin Ahmed, the exhibition is displaying artworks of artists Shahanur Rahman, Bonnie Rahman, Shilpi Ali, Israt Jahan, Farin Ahmed, Kajori Kaj, Aliz Chowdhury, Yasmeen Maheen, Choya Areefin, Owence Lawrence Gomes, Syed Nazmus Sakib and Hirok Nokrek at the venue.
Artist Hirok Nokrek portrays the national minority community Garo and their daily life in the Madhupur forest in Tangail.
His two paintings, acrylic on canvas, show Garo women working on a farm while a man practices self-defence as a warrior.
Syed Nazmus Sakib’s mixed media on paper titled ‘City Scape’ shows the city Dhaka with rickshaw, crow and electric poles and wires.
Shilpi Ali series portray urbanisation, agriculture and women while a mixed media on canvas titled ‘Still I Rise’ shows trees awakening while the civilisation chains the trees.
President of the foundation, artist Shahanur Rahman’s acrylic on canvas titled ‘Duchenne Smile’ portrays Bengali women wearing sari and flowers on her hair.
A series of floral still life created by Bonnie Rahman, is also being displayed at the exhibition.
‘Through regular exhibitions, curated workshops, and meaningful collaborations, we aim to nurture artistic talent, preserve Bangladesh’s cultural heritage, and connect the nation’s creativity with audiences across the globe,’ said Art Echo Foundation adviser Khan Mohammed Salehin, who also co-curated the exhibition.
The exhibition will end tomorrow.
