The Appellate Division’s chamber judge on Monday adjourned until today the hearing on the state’s petition seeking a stay on the bail granted by the High Court to former Narayanganj City Corporation mayor Salina Hayat Ivy in five cases filed over the killings and injuries of protesters during the July 2024 mass uprising.
The chamber judge, Justice Md Rezaul Haque, adjourned the hearing after asking additional attorney general Aneek R Haque to verify whether Ivy’s co-accused had already been released on bail and whether the state had appealed against those bail orders as argued by Ivy’s lawyer SM Siddiqur Rahman.
The police said that the former NCC mayor was shown arrested in two new cases linked to the attacks on protesters of the July mass uprising.
She was shown arrested on Sunday night, after the High Court had granted her bail in the five cases, Narayanganj district additional superintendent of police (crime and operations) Tarek Al Mehedi said.
The police said that Ivy was shown arrested in a murder case filed with Fatullah police station and another case over assaulting the police lodged with Sadar police station.
The High Court on Sunday granted bail to Ivy in five cases — three related to the killings of Md Tuhin, Minarul Islam, and Sazal Miah, and two concerning injuries to several others, including Chan Miah, during the student-led movement in Narayanganj.
Ivy’s other lawyer, Sara Hossain, told the Appellate Division that no specific allegations were made against her client and that the investigations had shown no progress, even though Ivy had been detained for six months without trial.
Ivy was arrested on May 9, 2025 at her Narayanganj home.
The former Narayanganj city mayor and several local Awami League leaders, including Shamim Osman and Gazi Golam Dastagir, were accused in the cases filed by the families of the deceased and injured protesters with the Siddhirganj and Fatullah police stations.
