The group art exhibition titled ‘City Origins’ under way at Dhaka Kendra at Mohini Mohan Das lane in Farashganj gives the audience a glimpse into the history, architecture and culture of Dhaka.

The eight-day exhibition, conceptualised by art curator-artist Dilruba Latif and organised by Hernet Fine Arts, is featuring 32 artworks, comprising paintings, prints and sculptures, by 30 celebrated artists.


Abdul Halim, Anisuzzaman Anis, Afroza Akhtary, Abdus Satter, Farida Zaman, Elham Haq Khuku, Fareha Zeba, Fahmida Khatun, Jamal Ahmed, Mohammad Eunus, Naima Haq, Rezauzzaman Reza, Kamal Uddin, Soikat Hossain and Sultanul Islam, among others, have displayed their artworks in the exhibition, which was inaugurated on August 29.

Afroza Akhtary’s acrylic on canvas artwork titled ‘Hilsa’ shows a still life of the national fish along with many local spices and ingredients.

Fahmida Khatun’s acrylic on canvas artwork titled ‘Mirror of Memorable Words 25’ shows a yard of a house in Old Dhaka.

Abdul Halim’s watercolour artwork titled ‘A Witness of Time’ shows the historical Beauty Boarding. 

Kamal Uddin’s watercolour artwork titled ‘Diary of Old Dhaka’ shows a crowded alley of Old Dhaka full of goods.

Soikat Hossain’s watercolour artwork titled ‘Witness of Time’ shows the balcony of a building in Old Dhaka.

Dhaka Kendra is a cultural centre in Old Dhaka. It comprises a history-based library and a small museum displaying everyday household items used by residents of Old Dhaka.

The exhibition will remain open till September 5.
