Bangladesh will now shift their focus towards the forthcoming three-match T20Is, after winning the ODI series by 2-1 against the West Indies, which starts on Monday at the Bir Shrestha Shaheed Flight Lieutenant Motiur Rahman Stadium in Chattogram.

The remaining two matches of the series are scheduled on October 29 and 31, respectively, at the same venue.

This will mark the return of Bangladesh’s regular captain of the format, Liton Das, who missed out on the later part of the Asia Cup T20 and the series against Afghanistan due to a side strain injury.

After a disappointing Asia Cup campaign, where Bangladesh missed out on the opportunity of playing in the final when they lost to Pakistan despite having a target of 136 runs in 20 overs, they beat Afghanistan 3-0 in the UAE.

However, batting, especially in the middle order, remained a concern for Bangladesh but the return of Liton would certainly boost their confidence.

From the squad of the Afghanistan series, Bangladesh only dropped Mohammad Saifuddin.

The West Indies, on the other hand are fresh from their wound of losing their first-ever bilateral series to the ICC associate nation, Nepal, last month. However, they sent a weakened squad, as several first-choice players were missing.

The batting-friendly wickets of Chattogram would be welcomed by both camps after a tough ODI series for the batters on black-soil wickets of the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.

‘Well, from my experience, that’s supposed to be the best wicket in Bangladesh, but I’ve not seen it,’ said the Windies head coach, Daren Sammy, after the third ODI.

‘I’d prefer a 3-0 series victory in ODIs, you know, with all that was at stake. But, I guess we have an opportunity to do the reverse in our home series. I think last year, in December, when we won the ODI series 3-0, and they won the T20 series 3-0,’ added Sammy, referring to their 3-0 loss to Bangladesh last year.

‘So, hopefully we could do that and play a better brand of cricket out there,’ he further said.
