
An eight-day long group photography exhibition by Pathshala Resting Academy titled Phosphenes is under way at Drik Gallery in the capital Dhaka.
The exhibition addresses diverse issues including climate change, urbanisation and culture.
The second edition of the Resting Academy– an international photography programme of Pathshala South Asian Media Institute– is featuring 10 photo stories from various nations.
Artists Abir Gangopadhyay, Arunkumar Marimuthu, Bastian Betz, Jyoti Shrestha, Leslie Searles Mejia, Paul-Jonas Stender, Prerna Nainwal, Ratheesh Sundaram, Reem Falaknaz and Shashwat Das are participating in the exhibition designed by Tanjimul Islam and Abhijit Shuvo.
The stories being displayed in the exhibition are rooted in diverse landscapes, including the Indian subcontinent, Peru and the Middle East but all united in themes of humanity, human stories and nature.
Bastian Betz’s photo series titled A New Naga portrays the damage in North Sikkim after destroying the Teesta III Dam, and facing tension and threat of floods during the rainy season.
Reem Falaknaz’s photo series titled Kabootar Awaay Jawaay depicts the pigeon’s sports and culture in south Asia and the Middle East region while Leslie Searles Mejia’s work titled Where the Ayaymama perches depicts Peru’s pottery culture led by women.
The exhibition is an outcome of a six-month programme where the artists have been mentored by esteemed artists, curators, writers, and bookmakers of Bangladesh and India. Â
The exhibition was inaugurated on April 28 and it will end today.
