Bangladesh Ansar and VDP secured the 36th National Women’s Handball Championship title, as they beat Bangladesh Police by 35-29 points in the final at the Shaheed Captain M Mansur Ali Handball Stadium on Monday.

This marked Ansar’s eighth consecutive title, and overall, they have become champions 24 times, more than any other team since 1983.

The first half ended 17-12 in favour of Ansar. During the second half, both teams attacked aggressively, but Ansar gradually extended their lead.

Centre-back Alpona, who also plays for the national team, was crucial to Ansar’s victory, scoring and assisting most of the team’s goals.

Police’s Rubina Islam was adjudged as the player of the tournament.

Meanwhile, Panchagarh district defeated Dhaka by 34-22 points in the day’s third-place decider at the same venue.

Bangladesh’s interim government environment, forest and climate change adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan attended the final as the chief guest and distributed the prizes among the winners.
