Two brothers drowned while bathing in a pond at Companiganj upazila of Noakhali on Wednesday afternoon.
The victims were identified as Md Masum, 8, and Md Maruf, 7, sons of Md Masud of Gangchil Housing in Ward No 9 of Charelahi Union under the upazila.
According to local people, the boys went to bathe in a nearby mosque pond while their family members鈥� were busy with household chores. At one stage, they slipped into water and drowned.
Family members later recovered their bodies and rushed them to a local village doctor, who declared them dead.
Local people also said that the family became homeless after their house was destroyed by river erosion months ago. Since then, their family lives in a makeshift hut beside the road.聽聽聽
Companiganj Police Station officer-in-cahrge Gazi Muhammad Fouzul Azim said that legal measures would be taken after consulting with the family.
