
Bangladesh archer Abdur Rahman Alif confirmed a silver medal in the Asia Cup-World Ranking Tournament Stage 2 after reaching the final of the recurve men’s individual event at the Bukit Gombak Stadium in Singapore on Tuesday.Ìý
Alif beat Pin An Chen of Chinese Taipei by 6-4 set points in the semi-final, setting up his gold medal battle against Japanese archer Miyata Gakuto in the final of the event to be held on Friday.Ìý
The 19-year-old Alif earlier defeated Tai-Yen Liu from Chinese Taipei by 7-3 set points Ìýin the quarter-finals, having previously overcome Busthamin Muhammad Syafiq from Malaysia by 6-4 in the pre-quarter-finals.
Alif, who finished seventh after scoring 662 points in the ranking round, got a bye in the first match of the elimination round before beating Chinese archer Alin by 6-2 set points in the next round to advance into the pre-quarters. Ìý Ìý
On Friday, when Alif will fight for gold, another Bangladeshi archer, Himu Bachhar, will fight for a bronze medal against Chechi Sachin of India in the compound men’s individual event.Ìý
Himu conceded a 147-143 point defeat to India’s Kushal Dalal in the semi-finals, where he reached after a 145-144 point win over another Indian archer, Thirumuru Ganesh Mani Ratnam, in the quarter-final.
Himu got a bye in the first match of the elimination round before beating Alabdullatif Abdullah Ibrahim of Saudi Arabia in the next round by 144-132 points and defeated Mirzametov Bunyod of Kazakhstan by 149-143 points in the pre-quarter. Ìý
