
Today is the 60th anniversary of birth of poet-musician and journalist Sanjeeb Choudhury.
Born in Habiganj on December 25, 1964, Sanjeeb Choudhury and Bappa Mazumder founded the band Dalchhut in the ‘90s, which carved a niche for itself within a short time.
Besides releasing a solo album titled Swapnabaji, Sanjeeb wrote, composed and rendered songs for Dalchhut’s four albums under the headers ‘Ahh’, ‘Hridaypur’, ‘Akashchuri’ and ‘Jochhnabihar’.
Songs rendered by the musician such as ‘Chader Janya Gaan’, ‘Kalapakhi’, ‘Ami Tomake Bole Debo’, ‘Sada Mayla Rangila Pale’, ‘Bioscope’, ‘Bhaj Kholo Ananda Dekhao’, ‘Hridayer Dabi’, ‘Haater Parash’, ‘Rickshaw’, ‘Samudrasantan’, ‘Kingbadanti’, ‘Nishiddha’, ‘Nashta Shahar’, ‘Katha Balbo Na’, ‘Sabuj Khunji’, ‘Bayas 27’, ‘Mone Pore’, ‘Guitar’, and ‘Kothao Banshi Bajchhilo’ are still popular among music lovers.
Sanjeeb worked in a number of dailies, including Ajker Kagaj and Bhorer Kagaj.
He also participated in cultural protests against the autocratic ruler HM Ershad during the ‘80s.
Sanjeeb Choudhury passed away in Dhaka on November 19, 2007.
