
The Bangladesh Academy of Dermatology has conducted three health camps, observing the World Skin Health Day 2025, on three islands of Dacope in Khulna.
Medical teams comprised of the country’s renowned skin specialists, including Bangladesh Medical University professor Dr Shahidullah Sikder, president of BAD; BMU associate professor Dr Mohammed Saiful Islam Bhuiyan, general secretary of BAD; Dr Wazed Ali Mridha, Dr Sazia Afrin, Dr Yasmin Joarder, Dr Afroza Jesmin conducted the health camps at Bajua, Kalinagar and Chalna islands in the upazila on June 20 and July 6 and 7.
More than 1,000 women, children and men from three were treated for different skin diseases, distributed free medications and counseled for awareness raising among patients and common people.
Professor Shahidullah Sikder said, ‘Skin is the first layer of protection for our body. Healthy skin means a healthy body. We want the common people to increase awareness about skin care.’
He mentioned that they would like to expert treatment to reach the grassroots people.
Bangladesh is one of the worst sufferers of climate change, global warming and rising of sea level due to its mostly flat landscape, said Saiful Islam Bhuiyan said, adding that as a result of the rise in sea level, many areas of the coastal areas of Bangladesh were often intruded and stagnated by saline water.
‘It impacts the skin health of the people living in these areas in many ways,’ he added, mentioning that due to salinity of the water and soil in this region, women and children suffer the most.
World Skin Health Day is a global initiative by the International League of Dermatological Societies and the International Society of Dermatology that occurs on July 8 with the purpose of educating people about the significance of skin health and encouraging discussion and actions that work towards improving skin health.
