The Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh on Friday held the 4th Accounting Educators’ Conference 2025 with a theme ‘Accounting Education for Sustainable Development and Good Governance,’ said a press release.

The event, held at ICMAB Ruhul Quddus Auditorium, Nilkhet in the capital, spotlighted the urgent need for closer ties between academia and the profession to equip future accountants for a fast-changing business world.


More than 100 educators from 70 universities and colleges across 21 districts joined the conference.

National University vice-chancellor ASM Amanullah inaugurated the conference.

He said that such initiatives ensured that graduates remained strong in fundamentals while also being ready to face the shifting global accounting landscape.

ICMAB president Mahtab Uddin Ahmed, attending as a guest of honour, urged participants to take the learning from the sessions back to their classrooms to amplify the impact.

The day opened with a welcome address by Jamal Ahmed Choudhury, past president and council member of ICMAB, followed by remarks from Md Kausar Alam, vice-president of ICMAB and education committee chairman, and a keynote on ‘ICMAB and the CMA Profession’ by Nikhil Chandra Shil.

Three technical sessions anchored the conference.

The first, ‘Sustainability Reporting Framework,’ featured a keynote by Md Jamil Sharif, accounting department associate professor of University of Dhaka, with commentary from Md Saiful Alam, professor of the department.

ICMAB vice-president Md Kausar Alam chaired the session.

The second, ‘Evolving Corporate Governance Practices in Bangladesh,’ was led by Syed Abdulla Al Mamun, ICMAB council member and professor of finance, department of economics and social science, BRAC University, with Ranjan Kumar Mitra, accounting department professor of University of Dhaka, as commentator, and Abdul Matin Patwary, ICMAB vice-president, as chair.

The final session, ‘Redefining Accounting Education in the Changing Business Environment,’ was chaired by Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, past president and council member of ICMAB, with a keynote by Md Musfiqur Rahman, accounting department professor of University of Dhaka, and commentary from Mohammed Jahangir Alam, ICMAB council member.

Valedictory session, moderated by Mohammad Zakaria Masud wrapped up the day with highlights from Mohammad Moniruzzaman, accounting department associate professor of University of Dhaka, and a formal closing by Mohammed Salim, past president and council member of ICMAB and chairman of seminar and conference committee.
