Team Group managing director and former senior vice-president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association Abdullah Hil Rakib died at the age of 54 in an accident in Canada while boating in a lake.

Mohiuddin Rubel, additional managing director of Denim Expert Ltd and former director of the BGMEA confirmed the death of Abdullah Hil Rakib on Monday morning.


Moreover, according to a post from the Ontario Provincial Police - Central Region鈥檚 X handle, two men died after their canoe capsized in the Kawartha Lakes area of Sturgeon Lake of Ontario on Sunday afternoon (Canadian Time), about early Monday in Bangladesh.

Mohiuddin Rubel confirmed that one of those two was Abdullah Hil Rakib.

According to Rakib鈥檚 LinkedId profile and Team Group鈥檚 website, Team group started garments and textile business in 2009 with three manufacturing units.

Over a decade the Team Group has become a leading RMG conglomerate of the country comprising 6 apparel and backward linkage factories namely Brothers Fashion Limited, 4A Yarn Dyeing Limited, Gramtech Limited, South End Sweaters, Mars Stitch Limited and CBM Limited.

Moreover, Rakib also expanded his business in pharmaceuticals, information technology, real estate, and retail sectors.

The Group is one of the trendsetters in sustainable and responsible business in Bangladesh, which has one LEED Gold certified factory and two others already registered in the USGBC for achieving LEED Platinum.

Rakib served BGMEA as director, vice-president and senior vice-president in different terms between 2013 and 2024.

During his tenure in BGMEA, he played an important role in exploring new markets in Japan, Brazil, Mexico and Chile.

He also served as a member of the Board of Trustee in BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology, where he tried to push for an Industry Academia Partnership.

He also supported the countrywide Textile Talent Hunt initiative to cater good entry and mid-level management staff in the country鈥檚 RMG sector.
