Today is the second anniversary of death of poet Asad Chowdhury.
Born on February 11, 1943, Asad Chowdhury made a significant contribution to literature. He became one of the major poets in contemporary Bangla literature for his buoyant attitude towards life and cheerful style of writing.
Asad Chowdhury started his career as a lecturer of Bangla language and literature at Brahmanbaria College in 1973.
He also served as director at the Bangla Academy. He was also a life member of the Asiatic Society of Bangladesh.
His literary works include ‘Tabak Deya Pan’, ‘Bitto Nai Besat Nai’, ‘Batash Jeman Parichita’, ‘Brishtir Sangsare Ami Keu Noi’, ‘Satya Pherari’, ‘Kichu Phool Ami Nibhiye Diyechhi’, ‘Prem O Prakritr Kabita’, ‘Ekka Dokka’, ‘Joler Madhye Lekhajokha’, ‘Je Pare Paruk’, ‘Madhya Math Theke’, ‘Megher Julum Pakhir Julum’, ‘Nadio Bibastra Hoy’, ‘Premer Kabita’ and ‘Garba Amar Anek Kichhur’.
For his contribution to Bangla literature, the poet was awarded with the Ekushey Padak and Bangla Academy Literary Award.
Asad Chowdhury passed away on October 5, 2023 in Canada.
