
Today is the 77th anniversary of birth of poet, short story writer, essayist and former professor of Dhaka University Kashinath Roy.
Born on November 30, 1947 in Natore, Kashinath Roy secured first position on the merit list in both secondary and higher secondary from Pabna Zilla School and Government Edward College respectively in the Humanities group.
He obtained his bachelor’s and master’s in English from Dhaka University.
He also served as a faculty member at some other universities, including Jahangirnagar University and Eastern University.
He wrote collections of poems titled Jibanananda Dekhun and Ami Jaha Dite Pari. He also wrote a play in verse called Dibhain Kamedi. He also left his mark of excellence in his short stories, including ‘Rupantar’, ‘Memsaheber Paa’ and others.
He also had a number of academic publications published in local and international journals. He also contributed to the English-Bengali Dictionary published by the Bangla Academy.
Kashinath Roy passed away on January 17, 2021.
