Recitation artistes enthralled poetry lovers performing in a recitation event held at the National Art Gallery Auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Saturday.

The event, organised by cultural organisation Boithok, featured a recitation session titled ‘Kanthe Shobhita Shabda Parijat’.


Twenty-six recitation artistes from the 54th to 57th batches of Boithok recited poems written by Kazi Nazrul Islam, Jibanananda Das, Sunil Gangopadhyay, Rafiq Azad, Humayun Azad, Rabindranath Tagore, Syed Shamsul Haque, Taslima Nasrin  and others.

The event began with Salam Mazumder reciting Jibanananda Das’s poem titled ‘Tomra Jekhane Sadh Chole Jao’, following which, Shahina Afroz recited self-penned poem titled ‘Klanto Ami’, Aminur Rahman recited Sunil Gangopadhyay’s ‘Keu Kotha Rakhe Ni’, Israt Jahan recited Taslima Nasrin’s ‘Abhishap’ and Nusrat Jahan Nusur recited Kazi Nazrul Islam’s ‘Aj Srishti Sukher Ullashe’, among others.

All the 26 recitation artistes jointly recited Syed Shamsul Haque’s poem titled ‘Amar Porichay’ at the end of the session.

The event also featured special recitation session of Hasan Mahadi, chief trainer of recitation, acting and presentation school of Boithok, and Tito Munshi, renowned recitation artiste.

Hasan Mahadi said, ‘It is a special day for Boithok. The participants made good improvements during the three-month workshops.’

‘I hope that they will continue their journey and promote cultural activities,’ said Hasan Mahadi.

Bangladesh Television former director general M Hamid was present as chief guest at the event.

He wished the recitation artistes all the best in their future endeavours.

Hasan Mahadi recited Jibanananda Das’s poem titled ‘Banglar Mukh Ami Dekhiyachi’, Pran Chandra Das’s ‘Konthe Shobhito Shobdo Parijat’, Tarapada Ray’s ‘Mod Khawar Somoy Ami Kono Risk Nei Na’, Subodh Sarkar’s poem ‘Kallu’ and others.

Tito Munshi mesmerised the audience reciting two poems written by the national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam. Tito Munshi recited ‘Gahi Shammer Gan’ and ‘Bidrohi’.

Boithok handed over certificates and crests to students from the 54th to 57th batches and formally welcomed the students of 58th and 59th batches at the event.
