Bangladesh will participate in the forthcoming AHF Asia Cup hockey after Pakistan pulled out of the tournament due to security concerns.

Bangladesh Hockey Federation general secretary Lt Col (retd) Riazul Hasan confirmed their participation in the tournament, which will be held in Bihar, India, from 27 August to 7 September.

‘The AHF has officially invited Bangladesh for the Asia Cup 2025, set to take place in India. The Bangladesh hockey team will take part in the Asia Cup, inshallah,’ said Riazul.

Initially, Bangladesh did not qualify for the tournament after finishing third in the AHF Cup, which served as a qualifier for the main event, following a 5-4 defeat to Oman in the semi-finals in April.

As Pakistan withdrew from the event due to geopolitical tensions between the nations, Bangladesh were given the green light to take their place.

The hockey team has been training at the Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium in the capital since August 14.
