The Border Security Force of India pushed 24 more people into Bangladesh through two border points in Panchagarh district early Thursday.

One of them is suspected to be an Indian national, Border Guard Bangladesh officials said.

With the latest push-ins, the number of people, including Rohingyas and Indian nationals, pushed into Bangladesh by the BSF since May 7 has increased to 1,939.

BGB 56 battalion commanding officer Sheikh Mohammad Badruddoza said that 24 people were pushed into Bangladesh through the Shingroad border of Chaklarhat union under Panchagarh sadar Upazila and the Malkadanga border of Barashshi union under Boda upazila.

‘Our patrol teams detained them. One of them could not give his address correctly. That is why an investigation is underway,’ he said.

A flag meeting will be held with the BSF in connection with this issue and further action will be taken accordingly, Badruddoza said.

‘23 of the detainees have been handed over to the police for taking necessary legal steps,’ he added.

The police said that they were from Narail and Bagerhat districts and had been living in India’s Delhi for one decade, according to the police.

The Delhi police arrested them on July 6 and were later airlifted to Bagdogra Airport on Wednesday. The BSF later pushed them into Bangladesh, the police, referring to the detainees, said.
