
The Border Security Force of India pushed 55 more people, including women and children, into Bangladesh through four border points in Sylhet and Sunamganj districts on early Wednesday morning.
With the latest push-ins, the number of people, including Rohingyas and Indian nationals, pushed into Bangladesh by the BSF since May 7 has increased to 1,915.
Border Guard Bangladesh 48 Battalion commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Md Nazmul Haque said that BSF personnel pushed 55 people—12 men, 33 women and 10 children, into Bangladesh territory through different border points of Sylhet and Sunamganj districts between 4:00am and 7:00am.
Through border points in Sylhet, 19 individuals were pushed into Bangladesh through Kalairag border point at Companiganj upazila, 13 people through Mokampunji border point under Shripur union at Jaintapur upazila and two more through Naljuri border point at Goainghat upazila, the BGB officer said.Â
Through a border point in Sunamganj, the BSF pushed 21 people through Chhanbari border point under Noarai union at Chhatak upazila, he said.
The BGB officer said that their personnel at the border outposts concerned detained the people immediately after they were pushed in.
‘In the primary interrogation, the detainees admitted that they had entered into India illegally at different times in search of jobs,’ Lieutenant Colonel Nazmul said.
Of the 55 individuals, 23 were from Narail, 12 from Jessore, 10 from Satkhira, 4 from Sylhet, two from Barishal and one each from Habiganj, Narsingdi, Khulna and Kushtia districts, he said.
The BGB officer said that the detainees were handed over to respective police stations for taking necessary legal steps.
