The Bangladesh Football Federation will host a FIFA tri-nation series later this month as part of the women’s football team’s preparation for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026, scheduled to be held in Australia next year.

Apart from hosts Bangladesh, Azerbaijan and Malaysia will take part in the competition, but the venue of the tournament has yet to be decided.

Bangladesh, who are currently placed 104th in FIFA Rankings, are 12 places behind Malaysia (92nd) and 30 places behind Azerbaijan (74th).

Bangladesh will take on Malaysia on November 26 and Azerbaijan on December 2, respectively. Malaysia and Azerbaijan will face off against each other in the other game on November 29.

All matches of the series will kick off at 6:00pm Bangladesh Standard Time, confirmed the Bangladesh Football Federation.

After completing the tri-nation series, the national team players will be engaged in the women’s football league, starting on December 15, which will allow up to two foreign players in each participating club team.

Talking to media, the BFF women’s wing chief, Mahfuza Akhter Kiron, informed that so far 13 clubs have enrolled for licensing and the First Instance Body is working on issuing licences from Saturday.

‘We can run the league with 13 teams, if they all meet the criteria…Once licensing is complete, the transfer window will open this month. We have decided to allow two foreign players to boost league competitiveness and give national team players a challenging environment ahead of the Women’s Asian Cup,’ said Kiron.

Earlier, Peter Butler’s charges toured Thailand to play friendlies in late October and conceded defeats to hosts by 3-0 and 5-1 goals.

In their maiden appearance in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup, Bangladesh will face holders and nine-time champions China and three-time champions North Korea alongside Uzbekistan in their Group B matches.
