World football governing body FIFA imposed a three-window ban on six-time Bangladesh Football League champions Abahani Limited for not paying the salaries of foreign players.

The ban took effect on November 3 after Richmond Boakye, Kennedy Amutenya, and Moayad Al Khouli allegedly filed complaints with FIFA due to not receiving payments, even though they had signed contracts with Abahani for the 2024-25 season.

With the outcome, Abahani has joined its arch-rivals Mohammedan Sporting Club and Bashundhara Kings among the clubs facing transfer bans.

The ban will remain in place until the outstanding dues are settled or the complainant withdraws.

Abahani manager Satyajit Das Rupu admitted that they had been informed of the decision by FIFA.

‘We came to know about FIFA's decision on Tuesday, though the club lawyer appointed by the previous management before August 5, 2024, had already informed FIFA about the changeover in Bangladesh and Abahani's situation,’ Satyajit told the media on Wednesday.

‘But FIFA gave their verdict in favour of the players, who did not come to Bangladesh, and even one or two of them played for other clubs in the same season,’ he said.

Earlier, Fakirapul Young Men’s Club were also handed a transfer ban, but they managed to lift it after paying their dues to an Uzbek player.

However, the transfer ban is ongoing for Kings, and Mohammedan are at a standstill.
