Bangladesh Federation of Film Societies on Saturday formed an executive committee for next two years at a day-long council held in the seminar room of Bangladesh Film Archive in the capital Dhaka.

A 15-member executive committee was announced by former president of the platform professor Abdus Selim with film activist Zahirul Islam Kochi as president and Mohammad Nurullah as secretary general.

The council was attended by members from more than 45 registered and non-registered film societies across the country, including organisations from public and private universities.

The council discussed challenges of organising film screening across the country, audience crises and the overall lack of good films.

The members of different film societies stressed the importance of building new audiences for good films and also promoting local talents for film making.

‘Film societies movements became weaker for different reasons but after the student-led mass uprising many societies are working for film development,’ Zahirul Islam Kochi said, adding, ‘Many government organisations and non-government institutions focus on film making and development that encourage us to strengthen film societies’ movement.’

Film Societies screening films specially independent and unconventional films to build conscious societies, organise film appreciation workshops, and also make films, Zahirul Islam said, adding,  ‘The BFFS will take advocacy of different government and non-government organisations for developing film culture of the country as well as film industry.’

Mohammad Nurullah said that the BFFS would work to organise all film clubs and societies across the country.
